Yoga Weekend Immersion with ARI HALBERT - Guest Teacher form PHILADELPHIA
​Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of June 2019

Ari is a licensed acupuncturist, holistic nutrition coach, Qi Gong instructor, and registered yoga teacher with over a decade of experience, Ari brings a diverse, multi-disciplinary approach to his work. His background in engineering, in-depth studies of biomechanics, and hands-on training in human anatomy enable him to help clients recover quickly from injury and achieve greater overall stability and quality of movement.  Ari is an expert at helping people understand complex movement principles an apply them within their own practices.
In addition to his academic endeavors, Ari has spent many years gaining direct knowledge under the guidance and tutelage of Sung Baek, a 74th-generation Korean acupuncture master, and Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga, whose mentorships have offered invaluable insight into the more esoteric aspects of Chinese Medicine, Taoist Philosophy and the yogic healing arts.
With a keen eye for detail, Ari’s teaching style is succinct, highly personalized, and imbues a deep care for integrity of movement. To “work smarter, not harder” is Ari’s personal motto, and one can see this ethic carry over into his teaching via his deep commitment to helping students move with more efficiency, fluidity, and ease.
Ari has an acupuncture practice in New York City and holds workshop internationally, teaching Yoga, Qi Gong, and calisthenics.

Hand Balancing and cleaning up Dysfunctional Movement

Saturday June 15th / 5pm - 8pm

This workshop is for advance beginner and intermediate level students and will focus on mastery of the foundational exercises.  For intermediate students, this will help clean up and correct any dysfunctional movement patterns holding you back from advancing further along towards press handstand work.  And for beginners, this will give you a set of tools and exercises that will massively increase confidence when learning to go upside down, even if this is your first time!

With an emphasis on wrist and shoulder prep, conditioning drills, and different handstand variations (from using the wall to kick-ups to press-ups for intermediate students), you will develop both the strength and coordination necessary to find graceful lift off on your hands.  No student is too beginner or too advanced to learn or review the foundations––it is only through repetition of them that all the advanced work can come with ease. The workshop will offer techniques, skills, and an in-depth exploration of proper biomechanics that will provide rapid progress towards finding lightness on your hands.

An in-depth breakdown of the principles and alignment of Astanga Yoga

Sunday, June 16th / 11am-1pm

The Astanga yoga system offers us a wonderful way of linking together fluidity of movement and a steady visual focus to the metronomic measure of our breath.  By following the understanding that form informs flow, and flow deepens form, it’s clear that if we fail to construct our asana properly, much of the energetic potential of this potent practice is lost.  By teaching the framework of the underlying architecture of the postures, as well as showing how to create seamless modifications, which detract minimally from the flowing current of the practice, the workshop will leave you with a refreshing outlook on this traditional lineage.  If practiced correctly, this system can sustain your well being for years to come. The day-long intensive will offer a unique and individually tailored approach to the primary series that goes beyond what is commonly taught in most Astanga Shalas. It will be especially useful for students who have practiced Astanga in the past but found it either inaccessible or injurious.  Likewise, it will offer new ideas and deeper insight into the practice for those using this as their daily sadhana. You will leave with a sound understanding of how to better arrange yourself in both the standing and seated postures in such a way that the practice can truly be led by an evenly paced breath, soft focus and steady mind.
